VEGEMITE on TOAST SPEED PAINTING: TheHill88’s Portrait

Posted by admin on February 20th, 2010 and filed under painting | 12 Comments »

    A Taste of Australia

A Portrait of YouTube’s TheHill88 done with Vegemite and a butter knife on 9 pieces of toast. Original painting time 1hr 30mins. Speed Plays in under 4 mins.

    Music provided by Krill
    Song: Lady Vegemite
    http://www.krill.com.au

So what is Vegemite? According the the packaging it is “Concentrated Yeast Extract”. I did a little research and originally came from the left overs from brewing beer. Supposedly it is quite good for you and is full of Vitamin B. The taste is hard to describe salty, tangy, and bitter. It is definitely an acquired taste.

It was difficult for me to find it in the US, and I had to order it off the internet. There was some controversy in the media awhile back about it being banned in the United States. I guess it was like everything else in the media, overblown sensationalism with little truth and a lot of spin.

When painting an exterior door, the more paint you paint on will make it darker?

Posted by admin on February 19th, 2010 and filed under painting | 2 Comments »

I am painting an exterior metal door the color clay pot. I am wondering if the more coats I paint on it will the color get darker. I have painted two coats on it already!

    Hi,

On exterior metal, you should use a bonding primer first since the paint may not stick well or adhere appropriately.

The color should be what is advertised – it does not matter how many coats you apply. However, if it is a deep base color you are using you may need several coats to cover the door properly.

Ask your paint store for the bonding primer and if the color you are using is considered deep base.

If you need any other help, you can ask me any questions you’d like for free by going to my blog at blog.ezpaintinginc.com and clicking on "Ask Mike".

    Sincerely,
    Mike

What is the prep work for painting a metal refrigerator and what type of paint should I use?

Posted by admin on February 17th, 2010 and filed under painting | 1 Comment »

What would be the prep work on a metal refrigerator that I am painting? Then what type of paint do I use. I am planning to paint it flat black.

If you go to your local paint store like Home Depot or maybe Lowe’s they will have an appliance epoxy made for painting appliances. The only thing is that it comes in gloss normally. You might also be able to use just regular paint. If you do you will need to apply a good primer first so that your paint sticks. Maybe even sand it a little just to give it a little bit of texture before applying the primer.

What is the best method for painting an outside block wall ?

Posted by admin on February 15th, 2010 and filed under painting | 2 Comments »

I have an old garage I want to paint and I want to avoid painting it again. Is there a trick to painting it (preparation) and what is the best paint.

LISTEN, do not use a power washer on this project. You do not need any more moisture in the wall or on the block. If it is painted, you need to scrape the loose paint off. Then you need to wash the entire surface area with an acid(muratic) solution and then rinse with a hose. Let dry for a few days or more(with not rain in between). You could use a block filler on raw masonry spots, or just use an acrylic paint color of your choice, sheen is up to you. Paint two coats on entire surface and leave it alone. To help protect and get more life of this coating, you should do the same process to the inside. If you have water inside the block wall, you should drill some holes to let the water out. good luck.

How would I go about painting an old bench?

Posted by admin on February 12th, 2010 and filed under painting | 2 Comments »

I purchased an old antique bench made out of wood. It is a dark red color and this is my first time painting furniture. I would like to paint it a light green color. I don’t want to paint over the red but I don’t know how to strip the paint off. Any ideas?

No need to strip. Sand until reasonably smooth, prime, and paint. Use interior paint for inside, or exterior paint for outside.

When painting a mural does it matter the paint you use?

Posted by admin on February 10th, 2010 and filed under painting | 4 Comments »

What do I need to be aware of, there may be two different surfaces that I am painting on. One is wall board the other painted brick. They both have a latex paint on them so can I use the same acrylic paint on both or not?

Depending on the exposure to UV light. If this is outdoors, you should pick medium to high quality professional acrylics that have high degrees of Colourfast.

You can also use cheaper quality paints and then coat the whole mural in a UV protectant. Either way, you need to use something that can stand up to sunlight exposure.
