Do you think that is important to the patron? Will that help make sells?
Yes, I think it does. I have been selling the odd prints here and there to two different collectors. Both prefer Ilfachrome process, although I’ve been able to get them to accept RA4 from digital files. I searched long and hard for a custom ilfachrome lab in Los Angeles – the custom labs don’t do them any more. (I can still get a pushbutton Ilfachrome, but I want a custom print. If you don’t know the difference, please don’t comment.) So I shoot in film, as they insist on it, or use images from the archives, send out for high res drum scans, and print RA4 from a digital file.
Neither of them will even look at work done from a digital source. They aren’t uneducated – they don’t like the look of digital. They prefer some grain, and the softer look of film. They also prefer the color pop, so since they got the money, they get to call the tune.
I’ve noticed the same thing in galleries, and think it is a means to add cachet to the image – from that perspective it is a selling point.

I haven’t seen this place myself, but three people have told me the same story: there is this place in a nearby mall called CREATORS ART GALLERY. It’s full of prints. All people walked into the room and were immediately confronted by someone. Two boys I know were asked by a woman if they were "artists" or not, and when they answered yes she gave them a piece of paper that said they would have to leave or pay a fee of $100 to stay. I suppose if it is a gallery it can charge (but if you were so keen on making money of viewings, then why put in a mall store with giant windows and everything showing?), but, if I understand correctly, it’s only "artists" that are charged to look. Can a gallery really do that?
This sounds really strange! As you say, since this store is located in a mall, you would think that selling the art would be their objective. Is the art displayed all original art or are there posters and such as well? I’m really curious. You could always go there and if asked if you are an artist, say "no" and see what happens. How can the clerk determine who is or isn’t an artist? I’m really wondering if maybe there’s something not being told as part of this story. But the only way that you will know for sure is to take a trip down to the mall and go into the store and check it out yourself. I just did a search on Google and came up with the ad for the store and there is no mention of a fee for artists to enter. Take a look at the site:

We run a free resource directory for artists and want to invite artists and galleries to add their listings. The service is totally free of costs, no mailing lists, nothing nasty. It’s at http://www.artistsinoils.com
Problem is no budget. How best to invite artists and art galleries, art museums, art teachers to take advantage of this service ?

I was thinking of submitting my art work, but needed advise before I do so!
Also when they say minimum price £300 and £100 for original prints; what do the gallery people mean…do i have to pay a fee as high as that for submitting my art, or do I sell my work for that price??
I’m so confused:s
I read the details from the website, but didn’t understand the procedure, I could send the link so you could help me
Thank you
what i think is that the art work would be 300 and the gallery would take their percentage off that. good luck
he notices a couple arguing over the meaning of a painting. the painting is of three black men, butt naked, sitting on a bench, but the black man in the middle has a white penis. the gallery owner interprets this by saying that the painting is metaphoric of the black man’s struggle in a white man’s world, then he leaves the couple to think over it. they begin to argue again, when a man with a wv t-shirt comes up to them, he says..the owner is wrong about this painting, the couple ask how he knows this and he replies..because i’m the artist. intrigued to know the meaning of it they ask him what it represents…he says well it’s not black guys at all they are actually coalminers and they are on a bench waiting to get their showers and the one in the middle went home for lunch….can’t you tell?
Star for you………that was good stuff!!!
I am having my first solo show of art photographs, and while looking around at frames, I see that the cheapest (with frame and mat) is somewhere around $30 a piece. Any advice from fellow artists? With a show containing over 30 photos, this could run close to $1000. I just want simple black frames with matting.
make a deal with a local art shop. ask if they will give you a discount in exchange for including their name as a sponsor for the frames. or some other promotion for them.
I’m a new painter, and just so you know from the start, I am very good. I’m represented by a gallery in Columbus, but I live on the West side of Cleveland. I know I could hoof it around with my portfolio, but I am agoraphobic and this is nearly impossible for me. If I know in advance that someone is open to emering artists, it would make my quest so much easier. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
If you don’t want to go to the actual galleries, call them. Ask them what their submission policy is, and then respond accordingly. This is not high-energy physics, pick up a phone.
and how should I do this, can anyone suggest me, I should get job under any artist as a assistance in art gallery. I really need help. I really want to do this. thanks.
Go to the Art gallery and ASK if they have any job openings.
be prepared to sweep floors and empty trash on a part-time basis, for several months, until you can prove yourself artistically — or until you can meet someone who wants to take you on as an "apprentice".
this is called "paying your dues" ALL artists have to do this. The advantage is that you MEET PEOPLE, and you show your willingness to work hard for low pay, until the right opportunity comes along.
My wife is a stained glass artist and is having trouble finding out what price she should set her work at. It depends on how much the galleries want in commission.
Galleries charge 30% to 50%. If the gallery seems switched on I would go with the 50% at first until her work starts to sell. As her popularity increases you then have the power to re-negotiate. The gallery takes half. I am sorry to say that in life people who sell get paid more than anyone else
