I’m doing a drawing on canvas & am doing the basic drawing with pencil & have made mistakes & can’t remove them!
In the past I have used methylated spiritbut don’t have any right now.
Anything like household stuff anyone knows of I could use now please (eg vinegar etc, I need to finish it 2nite? Thank u.
Thank you Kaida, very good idea, will try it out!
PS. if the canvas ends up wth holes in it, I won’t blame you!!!
Rhyme, thank you, u r right but I’m doing a copy of sth & it’s not an original!
Somtimes vinegar. Or a little bleach, only a TINY bit on a q-tip tho.

Try rubbing gently with white bread if you don’t have a normal pencil eraser. Paint the canvas white again with diluted emulsion if it’s too bad.Good luck

If you do a drawing with a pencil on canvas it doesn’t matter whether you make a mistake or not because you are going to paint over it and the paint will cover the pencil marks. This is the main advantage of painting on canvas otherwise is just as well that you paint on paper with watercolour.
Although some people do make preliminary drawings with pencil on canvas in general you should draw directly with brushes and paint because whatever you do you will cover it up with more layers. If you worry too much about your pencil drawing you loose your freedom and the painting will look weak, stiff and non spontaneous. A good painter literally attacks boldly the canvas and is not too bothered about mistakes.
However if you really want to to erase the pencil you can do it with a very soft clean rubber and rub it out until the canvas is clean and also try to use some surgical spirit or turpentine to clean it completely.
It also depends on whether your canvas is primed or not. If it’s primed you simply cover the pencil with some primer or paint.

Yeah I wouldnt worry too much if u cant get rid of your pencil lines if you are going to be painting with Oils. Hmm I would try using a putty eraser-these are a lot softer than normal erasers and hopefully shouldnt ruin the surface. maybe use primer to get rid of the lines-just a thin layer.
