How do you keep a canvas briefcase stiff when washing?

I have a canvas Lands End briefcase that needs to be cleaned or washed. How do I keep its stiff texture? I have learned that ordinary washing makes these items limp.

It’s got a heavy dose of starch in it to keep it stiff. The answer is to wash it normally in a short cycle, but then use a liquid starch solution at the end to replace what you washed away. You’ll need to have a way to dry it in the shape you want it to be in when it dries. But it will hold the shape forever…or until you wash it again. I’d also suggest spraying it with Scotchguard when it dries to keep it from getting dirty again.

Just wipe it off, don’t submerge it in water.
