  • How can i stop canvas showing from underneath watered down acrylics?

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2010 and filed under canvas | 1 Comment »

I have began doing a new painting technique that involves me watering down my acrylic paint. It looks great wet but once is drys it drys dull and you can see the canvas underneath. I tried painting the canvas before hand but you can still see it. What would be a good thing to try?

    Thanks so much.

it looks dull? It could have to do with the quality paint you’re using. Liquidate Heavy Body Paint is one of my favorites. But don’t buy their "basics" edition, because it’s a poor quality version. "Golden" is nice too………but expensive.

It could also be that you’re just watering them down too much? Watercolors, and thin acrylics aren’t really meant for canvas. With canvas, you typically have to use MORE paint compared to what you would use on paper. Why not try buying some heavy water color paper instead? It comes in nice notepads and the pages are sealed with glue on all sides so you can paint with a lot of water without the paper curling. And it leaves a small non-glued area so when you’re done, you can just lift it at that edge, and peal it off the pad. Canson has a SUPER AMAZING pad of paper. It looks like this http://image.misterart.com/grouppix/528×352/2000/g2388.jpg And it’s my favorite thing to use for thinner painting. Also, maybe try some cold press illustration boards.
